School-age
Enrichment Program for Kindergarten through 6th Grade
How your children spend their free time matters more than you think
“Participants in high-quality after-school programs go to school more, behave better, receive better grades and perform better on tests compared to students who don’t participate in after-school programs,” according to a study of 68 after-school programs conducted by the Afterschool Alliance.
Make the most of before- and after-school free time
Our School-Age Enrichment Program offers before-school educational care and after-school enrichment for kindergarten through sixth graders every school day of the year. To meet the needs of working parents the program is also open on most school holidays and on school vacations.
Our school-age youngsters engage in discovery-play activities, reading and book-related projects, hands-on science activities, arts and crafts, music, recreational and educational games, and they receive help with their homework. They benefit from outdoor play on our large playground and sports field.
Busing is provided to and from the Ossining public schools.
The Enrichment Program offers a wide variety of hands-on activities, tutoring services and field trips. We actively work with many community partners, such as Teatown Lake Reservation, the Jacob Burns Film Center and the Ossining Public Library, among other, who bring a wide variety of resources to our children.
Youngsters begin to develop life-long habits of balancing work with leisure in the important time before and after school each day. We nurture this developing skill by providing a balanced schedule of
- Down time
- Physical activity in our outdoor play area
- Help with homework
- Enrichment experiences such as music, film-making, and more
- Mentoring relationships with supportive adults
- Family-style breakfast, substantial afternoon snack, and lunch on school holidays and vacations
School’s out — but the OCC is on!
To meet the needs of working families, a full-day enrichment program is provided on school holidays and vacations. Our program offers projects in the arts, science, math and writing. And, because school-age children are ready to be introduced to the recreational and cultural riches of our region, our students go on recreational and educational field trips, most of which are included in the tuition for our program (there is an occasional small additional free for certain special field trips).
